Renewing a Promise: CKOI’s Commitment to Healthcare for Our People
Last year, at the Charles Kene Ojukwu Initiative (Okunenyeife Foundation), we made a promise, not that we have too much but we are concious of giving our little contribution of the what we can afford and sustain at our modest privately funded foundation capacity, also not as a gesture of convenience, but as a covenant with my Community Abatete. This year, we renew that promise, sustaining nearly 100 lives under the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) scheme.
This is more than a health intervention. It is a reflection of our cardinal objectives at CKOI: responsible giving, according to our capacity, channeled into humanitarian drives that center on health, education, and public governance advocacy.
The Story Behind the Numbers…
When we first keyed into ASHIA’s community adoption programme last year, we witnessed something quietly transformative. Beneficiaries began to understand, perhaps for the first time that quality healthcare was not a luxury reserved for those who could pay in full, but a right within reach. With CKOI shouldering the greater burden of premiums, our beneficiaries now pay only 10% out-of-pocket for every medical intervention, a fraction that opens the door to the right hospitals, the right personnel, and the right standard of care.
Steady in the Face of Rising Costs…
ASHIA’s rates would likely be increased — a natural consequence of a growing, evolving scheme. But our commitment has not wavered. Where costs rise, CKOI absorbs the difference, ensuring our beneficiaries remain stably covered, undisturbed by the fluctuations of the system around them. This is what responsible giving looks like in practice: not a one-time act of charity, but a sustained, capacity-driven commitment to human dignity.
Why This Matters…
1. Access to care: Removing the financial barrier that keeps people from seeking timely, qualified care
2. Continuity of care; A renewed, multi-year commitment rather than a single act of goodwill
3. Stability; Absorbing rate increases so beneficiaries are shielded from market shocks
4. Dignity; Enabling people to seek care from the right places, with the right professionals, without delay.
This year’s renewal is a reaffirmation that CKOI’s promises are not seasonal, they are structural, layered on coordinated giving back to the society as my way of brian gain to my community.
As Anambra’s healthcare landscape evolves, so will our resolve to stand with the nearly 100 individuals and families who now call this coverage a lifeline. We encourage you to key into this ASHIA program not just for you, but for those around you as you can afford.
CKO…
